5k, sandals, and soccer

This weekend was a busy one! Both my sisters were in town so Mas and I tried to hang out with them as much as possible.

Saturday I ran my second 5k and being as I felt 100% better than last week it went 100% better! I knocked 2 minutes off my time. My goal was 28 minutes and I finished in 28:15! Brooke and Nate decided to run it with us since they were in town. Brooke finished in 27 minutes (dang soccer girl) and Nate knocked it out in 22!! I have been telling people that I am not a runner and I do not necessarily love to run, they tend to look at me weird and ask why I am running so many races this spring/summer.  I do it as part of me time. I love working out and being fit and running is so awesome for getting in shape. Also I love doing it with my girlfriends. I don't get to get out and away from Mas very much and when I do it is nice doing something healthy and good for me with my friends.

We have this weekend off but Easter weekend we are running a 10k! Yes, that is 6 miles, lord help me! I don't really have high goals for this race other than to finish. We are looking at it as our practice run for the River Run 10k in June. I think 60 minutes would be a good time for me. That gives me about 10 minutes a mile, I hope to jog the whole thing but know I may need to walk a minute here and there.

Later Saturday afternoon we attended Brooke's alumni soccer game. The weather was nice and we got to hang with aunt Emily!

Check out the new sandals.... Austin has been looking all over for sandals like this for Mason. He has the exact pair but everywhere he looked they were too expensive. We found these at Target for a reasonable price and Austin was happy to get them, one of many Mason-daddy things

working on the boat

Austin has spent the last few weeks remodeling his boat. He put wood boards on the floor in order to make it sturdier for Mason and I. Then he laid carpet over the wood, made a custom battery compartment, added pole holders and a fish finder. It looks nice!

The last step was to put the seats back in. They were laying on the ground in the backyard and Mason decided to make sure they were ready to be put back in

Checking out the situation

I know exactly what to do

tighten this up a little bit

make sure it can hold my weight

visiting tanganyika

My sisters are in town this week and after all the rain finally stopped we decided to take Mas out to Tanganyika. None of us had been there before so we loaded up and took the long drive from Belaire to Goddard.

Ready for some pictures.....

my first 5k

well... I didn't die!

I successfully ran my very first 5k on Saturday! It was fun.

I didn't do as well as I had hoped for but I was sick the 3 days leading up to the race and the fact that I was able to run the whole thing without passing out was good enough for me.

I ran with a few friends of mine which really helps to push me. They have a faster pace than I do. Since I was ill I didn't try keeping up but this coming weekend, they will definitely be what pushes me.

We got into the St. Patrick's Day spirit and dressed up.
My time was 30:10 which wasn't terrible and gives me room to improve (since we have talked about doing one pretty much every weekend through May)

Things I learned from the first race.
- being sick and unable to breath through your nose really sucks
- pick your music wisely, luckily my playlist was set in a good order. I can't imagine being on the last leg and not having a super pump me up song playing
- wind+hills=no bueno
- there will a 60 year old man who crushes your opinion of how fit you are... he will run the 3 miles in 17 minutes!

All in all it was a good time. There were a ton of people there, somewhere around 600-700. The costumes were great and the atmosphere made it exciting. People of all ages participated, there were a few 9 year olds and some fit 60 yr olds.

This weekend we have our second race, another 5k out in Maize. My sister, Brooke, will be in town and running with us! Goal for this week.. 28 minutes as long as I am healthy!

In my head vs real life

This post is super picture heavy but perfect for those who like to look at the pictures and not read a lot of words.

I had the great idea in my head of St. Patrick's Day photos with Mason since his 9 month ones were a flop. I was going to make him a cute little shirt and place him in a garden of shamrocks.

Here is the story as it played out in real life....

Look at all these shamrocks!

I know, I will eat them!

Oh, hey mom... don't mind me collecting all these flower things

Do I look fat when I eat them?

Is dad mowing behind me?!

This photo shoot is crap!

oh, I am suppose to be looking at you?

Check out this awesome shirt my mom made me =)

Sometimes when I am outside I like to YELL

Ok mom I will give you one good shot but I will wait till you are super close to me and can't get my whole body in the frame

I am pretty sure I have yet to have a photo idea with this child work

Happy St Patty's Day!

on running

My first 5k is this Saturday! I can't believe it is already here, I feel like I have been preparing forever but still not ready for it.  Actually I am feeling pretty good about it. The weather has been so nice lately that getting out to run is easy.

As you remember I started getting back in shape 2 months ago, I wanted to feel good about myself again and I used the I just had a baby excuse for too long, for goodness sake Mason was 7 months!

I started out doing Insanity and it was a real reality check; it kicked my butt. A friend of mine talked me into signing up for a 5k with her. It was 8 weeks away which left me with plenty of time to prepare. I am not a runner by any means but I knew it would push me to train hard.

At first I ran on my mom's treadmil after work on days that she had Mason... it was ok but I never went more than a mile and a half. Treadmil running is SO boring. I started running outside when it was nice and I was able to run much further, it was nice actually moving when I ran. There is something about going from A to B rather than just running in place that works for me.

Today the weather was awesome, I clean up my jogging stroller, which I bought at a yard sale a year before I was even expecting Mason.... it was cheap, and loaded little man up. I pushed myself and the stroller the whole 3 miles... in 26 minutes!!!

I honestly feel well prepared for my race and on track to running it under my goal which is 27 minutes. After this race I have another 5k the following weekend then I have 3 weeks to train for The Gladiator run which is a 5k obstacle course sure to kick my booty!

Be sure to check back in next week for my post on the race!

Photographing your own child...

is dang near impossible.

I was hoping to get Mason's 9 month photos taken today since it was so beautiful out. I have never had much luck getting him to go along with it. I am very uninteresting to him and he is definitely curious these days.

He decided he was going to look anywhere but at me.

Grass is his favorite right now, he picks it, examines, tries to eat then hands it to me

I decided maybe out back would be better, actually I wanted some shade from the sun and I knew he would smile when he saw cheech.

However, he was ONLY interested in the dog and wouldn't look at me at all!!

He absolutely loves the dog!

again interested in anything else but me

Mason is 9 months on Sunday, time has flown by
I can't believe I am planning his first birthday already

Mason loves....
playing peek a boo
dogs
yelling back and forth with daddy
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
Standing (assisted)
He is starting to give kisses when you ask for them and say what sounds like ma and dada

MY guitar hero

I cleaned out may car this weekend, which was waaaay over due but that's not the point, and I found a toy I had purchased for Mason about 2 months ago.

It is a guitar that plays music, counts, makes animal noises and can even be put in Spanish (Austin likes to do this).

Today Mason was on day 2 of being super fussy, he refuses to be put down without whining non-stop. I tried just letting him whine but he continued to do so for 30 minutes so I gave in and held him. I was able to get 5 minutes of him on the floor...alone while he played with his new toy.

Oh hey mom , want me to play this guitar for you??

Look I can play it without using my hands!
oh, you want me to sing too?!

Maybe we should practice some more before we decide to go on tour
 =)

Fitness Friday

Felt pretty good this week and tried to push myself more than I had been

Sunday- Ran 2 miles in 19:48

Monday- Completed my daily challenge from Fit2Flex50 , I put together an ab and leg workout, and did 30 minutes of yoga

Tuesday-  A quick at home full body circuit.
Wednesday- Ran 2 miles. warmed up with a 1 mile jog, finishing it in 9:20. The next mile was a HIIT where I alternated run/jog every 30 seconds. I ran at 7.4 and jogged at 6.0

Thursday- upper body workout from Food, Fitness and Family

Friday- rest. Planned on testing out my 5k playlist but woke up sick and never left bed

As of right now I am signed up for 4 races in the next 3 months. I am super excited and nervous at the same time. I can't wait to get the first one out of the way and see where I am at.  In March I have two 5k's back to back weekends, followed by The Gladiator Run in April and The Warrior Dash in May. I know we (a few friends and I) plan on more races later this year but this is the schedule so far. Goal the next 2 weeks before my races begin.. push push push!
